We’ve all had new year’s resolutions that have gone awry after a few weeks – after all, we’re only human! Here are some key tips for making a new interest (we’re thinking yoga) a life-long habit.
Accept that it won’t happen immediately.
It’s fine if you only make it to vinyasa once in January. Don’t punish yourself for it! Keeping a positive relationship with yourself is crucial if you’re going to keep on top of your goals.
Throw out the excuses (when you can)
Try and push through an excuse at least once – go to a fitness class when you’re “too tired” – worst case. Scenario? You’re more tired but you had a nice boost of endorphins. Best case scenario? You feel great and suddenly “too tired” isn’t an excuse any more.
Get friends involved
There’s nothing like a friend waiting for you in the cold to get you to the studio on time. The more you get others to hold you to account, the less likely you are to cop out last minute.
Forming a habit takes a long time – don’t expect to be working out five times a week starting tomorrow! Be patient with yourself and remember that if you have time off, you can always start again later.
